As a student at Connecticut College, you will have the benefit of our Connections program, a bold new venture that will prepare you for success in an increasingly complex world. Today, information comes at us from all directions at a rapid pace. You will need the right mix of skills and experience to use this information effectively in your life and work. Connections helps make this happen.
Connections encourages you to explore the linkages between different ways of thinking and different languages; between your chosen major and your elective course of study; between your academic classwork and your work in the world; between your life on campus and your life after Conn.
As an incoming first-semester or second-semester sophomore, you will take a ConnCourse, an interdisciplinary class that connects areas of the liberal arts and explores different modes of thinking. You will complete the five Modes of Inquiry (MOI). These Modes include creative expression, critical interpretation and analysis, quantitative and formal reasoning, scientific inquiry and analysis, and social and historical inquiry. You also will take Language Study at Connecticut College, so you can pursue advanced study and projects during your junior and senior years, and work with your advisers to apply your language study to activities that reach beyond the classroom. As a transfer, you may have Mode of Inquiry courses and the language requirement satisfied from your previous institution(s). You will declare a major by second semester sophomore year.
You will choose a course from each of the five Modes of Inquiry (MOI) – creative expression, critical interpretation and analysis, quantitative and formal reasoning, scientific inquiry and analysis, and social and historical inquiry – and one semester of study in a single language at any level (that is if you have 56 transfer credits or more), all of which may be satisfied from your previous institution(s). Transfer juniors entering Connecticut College with 56 credits or more are not required to take a ConnCourse. You will declare a major before arrival at the College or during New Student Orientation.
If you have other questions, contact Marina Melendez, dean of juniors, seniors and coordinator of transfer orientation, at email@example.com or 860-439-2050.
