Students write and perform diversity-themed monologues

The Connecticut College Student Government Association’s Diversity & Equity Committee presents “The Color Brave Monologues,” a performance of diversity-themed monologues written and enacted by students, on Saturday, April 18, at 7 p.m. in Cummings Arts Center’s Evans Hall.

The Diversity & Equity Committee reached out to campus at the end of the fall semester to collect stories related to themes and issues of diversity, such as race, ethnicity, religion, gender, class, privilege and sexuality. The committee received a large volume of submissions and, after a review, selected the 25 monologues to be performed in the show.

The pieces, all under five minutes in duration, are both broad and intimate, and the organizers describe them as eye-opening, uncomfortable, moving and cathartic. The show comes on the heels of campus conversations about racism, equity and inclusion, and the Diversity Committee hopes “The Color Brave Monologues” will add to the conversations and help members of the campus community establish solidarity around the issues they are discussing.

The show is free and open to the public. Seating is limited.
