Seasonal, swinging, student-composed and symphonic December music

The fall semester winds down with December musical performances of varied genres, including seasonal, swinging, symphony, student compositions and more.

Dec. 3: The “Russian Winter Arts and Music Festival,” features Connecticut College students and faculty performing the works of Tcherepnin, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich and Gliere. 6 p.m., Harkness Chapel. Free and open to the public.

Dec. 4: The “Russian Winter Arts and Music Festival” concludes with Connecticut College faculty performances of the works of Lebedev, Rachmaninoff, Mussorgsky and Shostakovich. 8 p.m., Harkness Chapel. Free and open to the public.

Dec. 7: “A Celebration of the Festival of Lights,” features the Connecticut College Concert Band. Gary Buttery, director. 7 p.m., Cummings Arts Center, Evans Hall. Tickets: $5 General, $3 Students & Seniors. Free to Connecticut College students, staff and faculty.

Dec. 9: “Swinging Sounds of the Season” features the Connecticut College Jazz Ensemble & Traditional Jazz Band. Gary Buttery, director. 7 p.m., Cummings Arts Center, Evans Hall. Tickets: $5 General, $3 Students & Seniors. Free to Connecticut College students, staff and faculty.

Dec. 10: “Dvorak's Ninth Symphony,” a Connecticut College Orchestra concert featuring Anton Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 ("From the New World") and other works inspired by travel, including “Sky’s Edge” by Eric Nathan. Mark Seto, conductor. 7 p.m., Cummings Arts Center, Evans Hall. Tickets: $5 General; $3 Seniors and Students. Free to Connecticut College students, staff and faculty.

Dec. 15: The Connecticut College Percussion and New Music Ensemble perform. Pete Jarvis, director. 7 p.m., Cummings Arts Center, Evans Hall. Tickets: $5 General, $3 Students & Seniors. Free to Connecticut College students, staff and faculty.

Dec. 16: The Charles Shackford Memorial Student Composers Concert features original works composed by Connecticut College students. Art Kreiger, director. 7 p.m., Cummings Arts Center, Evans Hall. Tickets: $5 General, $3 Students & Seniors. Free to Connecticut College students, staff and faculty.
