Music, Mother’s Day and Morris Men are all celebrated on campus in May. The following events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted:
•May 1: May Day Celebration, 5:30 a.m., Tempel Green. The Westerly Morris Men and the Mystic Garland Dancers "dance the sun up" on campus for the 40th year.
•May 2: Connecticut College Orchestra Concert, 7 p.m., Evans Hall in Cummings Arts Center, reception will follow. This performance features Assistant Professor of Music Mark Seto and the winners of the music department’s annual concerto competition, Lilas Humen '13 and Raymond Hawkins '13, who will perform Bach's Concerto in D minor for two violins. The orchestra will also perform senior Jordan Hillman's honors thesis composition for orchestra, "A Journey over Land and Sea," and Dvorak's Bohemian-inspired Symphony No. 8. •May 3-17: Senior Art Major Exhibition, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday, in the galleries of Cummings Arts Center. Art majors in the Class of 2013 present their senior thesis projects. On Friday, May 3, there will be a reception from 5-7 p.m., with the presentation of the Leo and Ann Higdon Awards at 6 p.m. For more information, contact the art department at 860-439-2740.

•May 3: Jazz in the Courtyard, 4 p.m., Castle Court. (Rain location: Evans Hall in Cummings Arts Center.) The Connecticut College Jazz Ensemble and Traditional Jazz Band will perform classic tunes such as "Puttin' on the Ritz," "Making Whoopie," "Summertime" and "Boplicity" under the direction of Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music Gary Buttery. •May 5: Connecticut College Concert Band Performance, 3 p.m., Evans Hall in Cummings Arts Center. The band, directed by Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music Gary Buttery, will be joined by band director John O’Briant ’01 and his wind ensemble from Norwell (Mass.) High School. •May 6: Percussion and New Music Concert, 7 p.m., Evans Hall in Cummings Arts Center. Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music Peter Jarvis will direct a program including contemporary music by such composers as Steve Reich and David Saperstein, along with works by student composers Jillian Sandler '13, Eric Stern '13 and Andy Stein-Zeller '14. •May 7: Connecticut College Chamber Choir Concert, 7 p.m., Harkness Chapel. Directed by Simon Holt, the choir will perform a varied program that includes senior Ben Zacharia's four-movement honors thesis composition titled "Light the Shadows/Spurn the Dark," and Rutter's "Gloria," a work for choir with eight brass instruments, percussion and organ. •May 9: Ammerman Center for Arts and Technology Senior Project Installations, noon-2 p.m., Alice Johnson Room in the College Center at Crozier-Williams. Seniors in Connecticut College’s Ammerman Center for Arts and Technology certificate program demonstrate their projects, including a live cello performance controlled by Kinect technology, multi-media art installation exploring female gender and communication and an architectural history documentary video production. •May 9: Student Voice Recital, 4:30 p.m., Harkness Chapel Main Sanctuary. Mariam Tabadatze '13 and Julian Gordon '14, students of Adjunct Assistant Professor of Voice Jurate Svedaite-Waller, perform works by Mozart, Ives and Dvorak. Patrice Newman will accompany on piano. •May 10: Connecticut College Arboretum Mother's Day Plant Sale, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., patio in front of the College Center at Crozier-Williams. Plants for sale include Martha Washington geraniums, New Guinea impatiens, mandevilla, hydrangeas and flowering azaleas as well as artfully designed container gardens. •May 19: Connecticut College’s 95th Commencement, 11 a.m., Tempel Green, processional begins at 10:35 a.m. Television executive and author Howard Gordon, the co-creator of the Emmy-winning television series "Homeland," will deliver the keynote address.
