The Connecticut College Department of Music presents a concert by Adjunct Assistant Professor Kumi Ogano on Friday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m. in Evans Hall of Cummings Arts Center.
Ogano, adjunct assistant professor of music, will perform a solo piano recital of impromptus — works intended to produce the illusion of spontaneous improvisation — by Franz Schubert, Frédéric Chopin, Gabriel Fauré and Jummei Suzuki on one of the College’s new Steinway pianos.
The New York Times has praised Ogano’s playing as “gracefully voiced, sensitively shaped and richly emotional.” She has appeared with major orchestras including the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony, the Tokyo Philharmonic, the Japan Philharmonic, the Bergen Philharmonic and the Budapest Philharmonic, and frequently appears on radio and television programs throughout Japan, Belgium, Norway, Hungary, Poland and the U.K. And she was recently a featured performer in the "Music from Japan Festival 2013" concerts in New York City and Washington, D.C.
Her prizes include first prize in the Rikskonsertene Competition in Oslo in 1982, bronze medal in the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition in Budapest in 1986, and the Chopin Prize from The Frederic Chopin Society of Japan in 1988.
