As they arrived on the sunny summer morning of Aug. 23, the 579 newest Connecticut College students—including 561 first-years, 17 transfers and one RTC student—were greeted by cheering student leaders, colorful signs and a campus eager to welcome the latest herd of Camels in Conn’s 112 years. Convocation, literally a "calling together" of the College community, celebrates the formal opening of the academic year. During the ceremony, new students recite the Matriculation Pledge and sing the Alma Mater.
