President Bergeron joins local leaders to support immigrants

Connecticut College President Katherine Bergeron joined city and regional leaders for a rally at New London’s City Hall to affirm the College’s commitment to immigrants. The event, organized by Mayor Michael Passero ’79 M’89, was in direct response to the executive order temporarily banning travel from seven Muslim-majority countries.

The Day newspaper captured the spirit of Bergeron’s comments, which echo recent messages she has sent to the campus community regarding support for international and undocumented students and the vibrancy and freedom of the College’s educational community.

“Our community is immeasurably strengthened by the diversity of cultural and religious and political perspectives brought by people from around the world. That means both permanent and temporary residents of the City of New London,” The Day quotes Bergeron. “This collective is, in turn, immeasurably diminished when this breadth of knowledge is threatened. We need each other now more than ever.”
