'Gifts anyone can afford'

A message from Ken Dolbashian, senior planned giving officer

Did you know there are ways to support Connecticut College that don't affect your current lifestyle or your family's financial security?

You can designate Connecticut College to receive assets from your estate in the future, or you can make immediate gifts of assets that are "out of sight and out of mind." We call these "gifts anyone can afford" because anyone can make them now without impacting their cash flow, lifestyle or family security.

When you make a gift via your will or a trust, you:
• Remain in control of your assets during your lifetime
• Can modify your gift to address changing circumstances
• Can designate your gift to a particular purpose at the College (be sure to check with us to make sure your gift can be used as you wish)
• Enjoy potentially significant tax benefits. There is no upper limit, under current law, on the estate tax deduction for your charitable bequests

When you make a gift through your retirement plan, you:
• Avoid the double taxation your retirement savings would face if you designated them to your heirs
• Can continue to take regular lifetime withdrawals
• Have flexibility to change beneficiaries if your family's needs change during your lifetime

When you make a gift of life insurance, you:
• Are giving an asset that you and your family no longer need
• Receive an income tax deduction
• Can use the cash value in your policy to fund a life-income gift, such as a deferred gift annuity, in some cases
