Students posting LIVE from national energy conference

Several Connecticut College students will be posting live updates on Twitter this weekend from Power Shift '09, a four-day climate and energy conference in Washington, D.C. that culminates with a rally on Capitol Hill. A total of 140 Connecticut College students - more than 7 percent of the student population - are attending the conference. In fact, only two other institutions in the country will have more students in attendance than Connecticut College.

Power Shift '09 is expected to draw 10,000 students to the nation's capital. The goal of the conference is to lobby for climate and energy policy that prioritizes renewable energy, green job creation and an aggressive cap on carbon emissions.

At the conference, students will attend workshops and movie screenings, as well as lectures by prominent speakers, including Van Jones, author of "The Green Collar Economy," environmental justice advocate Majora Carter and representatives Edward Markey and Donna Edwards. On the final day of the conference, students will travel to Capitol Hill to meet with legislators for what organizers are calling, "the largest lobby day on climate and energy in our nation's history."
