Connecticut College alumna gives nearly $1 million to support financial aid scholarship
NEW LONDON, Conn. - Deborah Dearborn, a 1967 Connecticut College graduate, has designated a $975,000 charitable remainder trust to fund an endowed scholarship that will support Connecticut College students with financial need. Martha Merrill '84, dean of admission and financial aid at the college, said endowed gifts like Dearborn's provide financial aid to generations of students.
"I am personally grateful for gifts of this nature as they allow us to open the doors to a greater number of outstanding and deserving students who could not otherwise afford a Connecticut College education," Merrill said.
Dearborn said she hopes her gift will give deserving students the chance to experience all that Connecticut College has to offer.
"Conn taught me how to think, how to approach a problem, how to analyze and how to have fun," she said, adding that her years at the college were "a springboard for a life-long engagement with ideas, communication and satisfying work."
Connecticut College awards more than $24 million a year in financial aid. Currently, more than 40 percent of Connecticut College students receive some form of financial aid.
