onStage Presents Pianists Kathleen Tagg and Andre Petersen
Connecticut College’s onStage Guest Artist Series presents “Where Worlds Collide,” featuring South African pianists Kathleen Tagg and Andre Petersen at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20 in Evans Hall.
“Where Worlds Collide” brings together two of South Africa’s most celebrated pianists, one eclectic classical and one jazz artist, in a unique collaboration. As post-apartheid generation artists, Tagg and Petersen roll out a musical journey that is both personal and reflective, and extends their musical commentary on South Africa’s resilient and extraordinary socio-musical history. This musical offering pays tribute to the poignant legacy of people who have inspired their worldview and artistry.
More than just a meeting place of jazz and classical music, “Where Worlds Collide” employs a wide array of additional elements, such as techniques Tagg has developed, using the piano from the inside out to create a world of new sounds. Petersen combines his classical training with his jazz voice, while Tagg is a classical musician who improvises and writes music that crosses genres. They have performed and worked with artists in many different genres, and will bring all of these influences to this program.
Tickets are $22 for general admission, $20 for seniors and $11 for students, and are available online or by calling the box office at 860-439-2787.
