'Lenin Didn't Work Out: A Conversation with Gary Shteyngart' Nov. 15
In a free and public event, “Lenin Didn't Work Out: A Conversation with Gary Shteyngart,” the renowned novelist will give an interactive reading from his 2014 memoir, “Little Failure,” on Tuesday, Nov. 15, to from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m., in Ernst Common Room in Blaustein Humanities Center.
“Little Failure” tells the story of Shteyngart's emigration from Soviet Russia to the U.S. when he was seven years old, as well as his years as a student at Oberlin College where he wrote his first novel, “The Russian Debutante's Handbook."
In advance of Shteyngart's visit to campus, there will be two reading groups on Nov. 4 and Nov. 11 from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Walk-in Coffee Closet at Ruane’s Den to discuss his third novel, “Super Sad True Love Story.” The novel can be heard as an audiobook on Audible, performed by readers Adam Grupper and Ali Ahn. These events are also open to the public.
The reading is sponsored by the Department of Slavic Studies, the English Department, the Philosophy Department, Zachs Hillel House, the Office of the Dean of the College, the Miriam Kraemer Melrod Endowment for Judaic Studies, the Toor Cummings Center for International Studies and the Liberal Arts, the International Commons, and the Office of the President.
