Contemporary Chinese documentary filmmakers to screen films April 13-17
The Chu-Griffis Asian Art Collection at Shain Library presents Lei Jianjun and Liang Junjian, two distinguished Chinese documentary filmmakers and professors at Tsinghua University in Beijing, who will be in residence from April 13-17. They will screen four films, of their own and of fellow documentary directors, in Chinese with English subtitles, which are free and open to the public.
The schedule is as follows:
Thursday, April 13, 7 p.m. "Himalaya: Ladder to Paradise." Followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers. Chu Room, Shain Library, first floor.
Friday, April 14, 4-5:30 p.m.
A panel discussion with the two directors on the current state of independent Chinese documentary filmmaking, with two students serving as moderators and discussants. Followed by "Masters in the Forbidden City" to be shown at 7 p.m. Chu Room, Shain Library, first floor.
Saturday, April 15, 7 p.m. "The Lacing of Life." Followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers. Chu Room, Shain Library, first floor.
Sunday, April 16, 2 pm. Rescreening of "Himalaya: Ladder to Paradise." Note: Screening location changed to Olin Room 014.
Monday, April 17, 7 p.m. "The Feast of Kurban Bayram." Followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers. Chu Room, Shain Library, first floor.
