Annual Arboretum photo contest invites photographers to "Capture the Beauty of Nature"
The Connecticut College Arboretum's Annual Photo Contest and Exhibition is free and open to all, and this year, new photograph categories widen the scope for budding or professional photographers to “capture the beauty of nature” in the Arboretum. The deadline for entries is Friday, April 7, 2017 at noon; prizes will be awarded at a reception on Arbor Day, April 28.
All photographs must be taken in the Arboretum, where native plants, trees, shrubs and wildflower collections and wildlife can be found in its 750 acres, including the Native Plant Collection, the Caroline Black Garden, the campus landscape and greenhouse, and the Bolleswood Tract and Mamacoke Natural Areas.
Photographers can find the Photo Contest Rules of Entry 2017 and the Photo Contest Entry Form 2017 on the Arboretum website.
The new photograph categories are:
1. Tree: Portraits of trees (for Arbor Day, April 28); big or small, young or old. The judges prefer native species.
2. Landscape: a general scenery view
3. Flora: Flowers, foliage, fruit, other parts of plants
4. Wildlife: Any subject from the animal kingdom
Awards will be given to one adult and one youth (under 18 years) in each category. Winners will receive $50 and a one-year membership to the Arboretum.
Prizes will be awarded at a reception on Arbor Day, April 28, 2017, at Unity House on the Connecticut College campus to which participants, winners and the general public are invited. All entries, on a space available basis, will be displayed for campus and public viewing in an exhibition at Unity House through May 24.
