2019-20 onStage at Connecticut College Guest Artist Series Announced
Continuing a tradition of presenting innovative theater, dance and music with performances from around the globe, Connecticut College’s onStage Guest Artist Series will kick off the 2019-2020 season on Sept. 20 with “Where Worlds Collide,” featuring South African pianists Kathleen Tagg and Andre Petersen.
“Our performers touch on many relevant themes, including the impact of trauma, women’s voices lost to war and the challenges of bringing change to home countries,” said Robert A. Richter, director of arts programming. “This year’s unique lineup of musicians, dancers and actors will be both provocative and inspiring.”

Kathleen Tagg and Andre Petersen: “Where Worlds Collide”
Friday, Sept. 20, 7:30 p.m., Evans Hall
“Where Worlds Collide” brings together two of South Africa’s most celebrated pianists, one eclectic classical and one jazz artist, in a unique collaboration. Kathleen Tagg and Andre Petersen draw from the rich sonic tapestries of classical music, jazz improvisation and the nuances of South African jazz and indigenous southern African music to explore the diverse realms of sound that can be created with pianos.

Saturday, Oct. 12, 8 p.m., Evans Hall
Violinist and composer Jeremy Kittel will be joined by mandolin phenom Josh Pinkham and genre-bending guitarist Quinn Bachand. WGBH calls Kittel “a super, super musical force…he has a well-earned reputation as one of the most exceptional violinists and fiddlers of his generation, with influences as diverse as jazz, Scottish and Irish fiddle, bluegrass, classical music, and more.”

The Forgotten Kingdom – Sand Stories performed by Sand Artist Kseniya Simonova and Guy Mendilow Ensemble

International sand art superstar Kseniya Simonova and Guy Mendilow Ensemble team up on an extraordinary show bringing to life Sephardi women’s voices lost to war. Simonova creates, morphs and obliterates sand imagery in real-time, crafting a flowing narrative driven by the ensemble’s evocative music and radio theatre-style storytelling.

David Dorfman Dance – “A(Way) Out of My Body”
Friday, Feb. 7, 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, 2 and 7:30 p.m., Myers Studio
Where do our minds and spirits travel when the weight of everyday becomes an unbearable load to carry? “A(Way) Out of My Body” investigates the out-of-body experience as related to intergenerational trauma, and the mental burden and physical impact of surviving personal adversity. David Dorfman and his company of dancers and musicians weave together a memorable evening of dance, live music and theater, where audiences can explore and realize their own joyous capacity to overcome physical and societal limitations.

A Far Cry, Chamber Orchestra

The Grammy-nominated self-conducted string orchestra A Far Cry returns to Connecticut College. The chamber orchestra has developed a distinct approach to music-making, with playing and programming that encourage risk-taking and exploration for both player and audience. The program for this concert, “Memory,” includes work by Arvo Part, W.A. Mozart, Edward Elgar and Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

L.A. Theatre Works – “Seven”
