October 30, 2024

Dear members of the Connecticut College community,

As we approach a seminal moment in U.S. history – the 2024 presidential election – I write to remind all members of the Conn community of our mission to put the liberal arts into action. Encouraging and supporting civic engagement is one of our core values. All who are eligible voters are encouraged to be informed and then exercise their right to vote in the upcoming election. I applaud the hard work of Camel Votes to facilitate voter registration and provide resources on the critical issues facing us as we cast our ballots.

Given the current polarized state of our country and the potential for national tumult following the election, we, as a community, recognize there will be a wide response on our campus to the election results. In such moments, we are all called to recommit to our values of inclusion, equity and respect for diversity of thoughts and beliefs. We support and respect everyone’s feelings and beliefs regarding the election outcome. Conn is a space that allows for free expression and constructive dialogue, while ensuring adherence to College protocols and policies (see Honor Code and Principles of Community). In a subsequent email, we will send information regarding programming, spaces and resources the College is making available to students, faculty and staff.

By committing to our own mission and values, and supporting each other regardless of differing political views, I am confident we will navigate this pivotal moment together.

Sincerely,

Chapdelaine Signature
