Jonathan McBride ’92 to direct White House personnel
Jonathan McBride ’92 has been named assistant to President Barack Obama and director of presidential personnel, the White House announced this week. McBride, who currently serves as the deputy assistant to the president, will assume his new role later this month.
McBride, who majored in economics and history, joined the administration in 2009 as a special assistant to the president and the deputy director of the presidential personnel office. Before working in the White House, he was chief strategy officer for Universum, a global employer branding company. In 2000, McBride co-founded Jungle Media Group, an award-winning media company. McBride also previously worked for Goldman Sachs and U.S. Senator Herb Kohl.
In addition to his bachelor’s degree from Connecticut College, McBride earned an MBA in finance from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a former trustee of Connecticut College and the National Urban League.
During an April 2011 visit to campus, McBride discussed his career trajectory from Connecticut College to the White House and encouraged students to take risks. While his career has varied, he said he has always been drawn to the human side of business.
“Now, I’m spending all of my time working on the human side for the greatest boss in the world,” he told students.
