Safe Connect Getting Started Guide
This guide provides information for typical computer installations of the SafeConnect agent. If you need assistance or encounter problems, please contact the Information Technology Service Desk at extension 4357 (on campus) or 860-439-HELP (4357).
SafeConnect Login
When you connect your computer to the wired or wireless network for the first time, your browser may launch the SafeConnect Login site automatically or you may need to open a browser and visit a site (we recommend google.com) to see the login page. The college’s preferred browser is Google Chrome, but Internet Explorer and Firefox work as well.
When you see the SafeConnect Login screen, you will need to enter your network credentials (User ID and password). If you do not have a User ID and password, you may request Guest Account access. Once you enter your User ID and password, you will be asked to read and agree to abide by the Acceptable Use Policy. You have an option to view the website where SafeConnect documentation, including FAQs, are posted.
Installing the SafeConnect Policy Key
Before you use SafeConnect, you will be required to install a policy key. You will need Administrator access to properly install the software. Only Windows and Macintosh machines will be required to install the SafeConnect Client. Once installed, the key will not need to be installed again and you will not need to uninstall the Cisco Clean Access agent.
Once completed, you will only need to authenticate once per semester (applies to all students using MAC or Windows machines and faculty/staff on MAC machines). Faculty and staff on Windows machines will need to authenticate at every login to ensure Windows updates are current. If you normally login to single sign-on sites such as camelweb.conncoll.edu and mail.conncoll.edu, you will be automatically authenticated.
Upon clicking “Yes, I will install …”, you will be asked to download ServiceInstaller.exe (for Windows) or MacPolicyKeyInstaller.zip (for MAC). If you click “No,” you will not have Internet access.
After you click “Yes,” if you receive a security message such as SSL error, security exception or site untrusted, please accept the risk (Firefox), confirm the exception or continue to the website (IE).

SafeConnect Download Installer
In order to ensure a safe operating environment for all users of the campus network, most computers are required to install and run various software updates/programs before accessing our network. If your computer is not up-to-date or missing an anti-virus program, SafeConnect may not install successfully. SafeConnect will display a screen providing a description of the problem (Ex. computer does not meet minimum security requirements or doesn’t have anti-virus installed) and list the steps you must take before you can install successfully.

|
INTERNET EXPLORER USERS: When asked if you wish to Run or Save the software, choose "Run". When the download completes the installer should start automatically. If it does not, you can click the download link provided and save the software to the desktop. Once the download is complete you can run the installer by double clicking it on the desktop. |
|
FIREFOX, SAFARI AND OTHER WEB BROWSER USERS: When asked if you wish to Open or Save the software, choose "Save" and select the Desktop as the save location. Once the download is complete you can run the installer by double clicking it on the Desktop. |
|
WINDOWS VISTA AND WINDOWS 7 USERS: A User Access Control dialog will come up when the installer is run. Click "Continue" or "Allow" in that dialog to continue the installation. |
When installation is successful, you will see the message “The SafeConnect client has been successfully installed and is operating normally.” You are now on the network.
