How Do I Place My Order?

The special computer purchase plan is open to incoming students and any other Connecticut College student currently enrolled in a degree program. It is also open to faculty and staff. Orders may be placed by selecting the Dell, Apple or HP tabs above. Orders are placed directly through Dell, Apple and HP. You will be redirected to those sites for more computer information or for placing an order.

What Computer System Should I Select?

Connecticut College supports both Apple Macintosh and Windows personal computers.

What Options Should I Select?

We recommend that you purchase a printer for your convenience. The laptop computers do not come with a carrying case and we highly recommend that you purchase one.

What Software Do I Need?

Dell computers will be shipped with the Windows 7 operating system. You will need to purchase Microsoft Office. You can purchase it when you place your computer order or you can purchase it from the bookshop.

Apple Macintosh computers will be shipped with the OS X operating system. You will need to purchase Microsoft Office. You can purchase it when you place your computer order or you can purchase it from the bookshop.

HP computers do not come preloaded with Microsoft Office. You can purchase it via the link on the HP page or through the bookshop.

How Do I Connect to the Internet ?

Computers require an Ethernet card and an Ethernet cable to connect to the College computer network and the Internet. If your computer does not with an Ethernet cable you can purchase one before you arrive or at the college bookshop once you are here.

You will also be required to install Cisco Clean Access on your computer. Clean Access allows us to quickly identify computers that have viruses so that our network remains stable.

Wireless connections are available in all dorm common rooms and in many other areas around campus. Wireless connection is not guaranteed in your room. Individually owned wireless access points doe not work well in residence halls and these units interfere with each other and the wired network. WAP's that are improperly configured pose critical stability and security issues to our network. Therefore, the use of personally owned WAP's is not permitted.

When Do I Receive My Computer if I order from Dell, Apple or HP?
The computer will be delivered to the address that you specify. Delivery depends on Dell, Apple and HP inventory. Please contact the company that you ordered from to obtain delivery status or for more information.

What if I Already Own a Computer?

The following specifications are the current minimum requirements for support at Connecticut College:

Minimum Specifications for Windows Computers: Windows 7, 2GB Ram, 240GB hard drive, 10/100 Ethernet. Software: Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, and up-to-date virus protection.

Minimum Specifications for Apple Macintosh Computers: OS X, 2 GB RAM, 256GB Hard Drive, 10/100 Ethernet card. Software: Microsoft Office, Safari, and up-to-date virus protection.
