Requesting Accommodations
Modifications to the Curriculum
Any curriculum modification that requires exception to College policy, such as course load adjustments or course substitutions, must be approved by petition to the Committee on Academic Standing for all students. Petitions are available in the Office of the Registrar or the Office of Student Disability Services and must be signed by the Director of Student Disability Services if the request for modification is on the basis of a disability. It also must be signed by the student’s class dean, academic adviser, and if appropriate, department head. Students petitioning on the basis of a disability should place a request with the Director of Student Disability Services for approval of support of course load adjustments or course substitutions first before filing a petition to the Committee on Academic Standing for final approval.
Course Modifications
When appropriate, students with disabilities may be entitled to modifications in a course, such as extended time on exams, other testing modifications, permission to tape record a lecture, or use of a laptop computer for note taking. Read further for more information on course modifications.
Housing Accommodations
There is a Committee on Accommodative Housing which reviews all requests for housing accommodations. The committee includes members of the offices of Residential Education and Living, Student Disability Services, Student Health Services, Dean of the College and Student Counseling Services.
