Associate Deans of Studies
We, the academic deans, are the Dean of Studies, the Associate Dean of Studies/Dean of Freshmen, Associate Dean of Studies/Dean of Sophomores and the Associate Dean of Studies for Juniors and Seniors. All long-term administrators of the College, we're committed to the institution's mission and core values, and have a deep knowledge of the College's academic requirements.
We work closely with the offices of Student Life, Unity House, Student Health Services, Student Counseling Services, CELS, Residential Education and Living, Disability Services, the Writing Center and Religious and Spiritual Life and oversee:
- Orientation and the transition of first-year and transfer students into the college
- First-year Seminars (in conjunction with the Office of the Dean of the Faculty)
- Academic Advising
- Fellowships and scholarships
- ConnSHARP (Connecticut College Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts Research Stipend)
- CELS, Career Enhancing Life Skills, career office
- Disability services, including academic accommodations because of a disability
- Medical leave: voluntary
- Other aspects of student academic life
- International student orientation and Homeland Security registration
We have a deep respect for our students. Our primary mission is to assist them in the development of their life goals, and encourage them to meet with their academic dean in the fall of the sophomore year. While we encourage our students to take responsibility for their own lives, we are always available to help them:
- Develop suitable educational goals
- Select appropriate courses and other educational experiences
- Interpret institutional requirements
- Enhance their awareness about educational resources available (e.g., internships, study abroad, scholarships and fellowships, centers) and learning assistance programs
- Develop decision-making skills
- Collaborate with faculty and academic departments
- Connect with institutional and community support services
- Reinforce their self-direction
